Week 1 | 2017

Happy Friday!

Each week a group of amazingly talented photographers from Facebook Group challenges each other to take on an assignment or weekly theme. I have joined two years ago. My first year was strong, but my second year was hard due to fostering of few really difficult and time consuming behavior issues dogs. This weekly challenge is a great way to network, get to know each other, and just try new things in general. I love being creative and I will do my best to wow you!

This week's theme is: New

Interestingly enough I have posted the same theme a year ago, when my foster dog Mystic was going to start her journey. Mystic was very sick and stayed with me for long time. Today, I will post the same for my foster dog Gemma that is about to leave us and start her new life. Gemma and her new and improved self is ready to start the 2017!

It was in August, when our rescue shared a dog with bad burns. I shared the photo several times, never thought of a thing. Shared again, again, and again... Inner voice whispered "foster". I have been wanting to take a break after several sick fosters, so I wasn't going to foster, but I did. Gemma we call her is an angel walking among us. Despite the injury, loss of faith, and being badly underweight, she turned out to be the sweetest dog.

Our first two weeks were hard. I sat with her asking her to eat, she refused to eat for two weeks. After several Vet visits and X-ray with ultrasound, the Vet confirmed there is nothing wrong with Gemma. I knew she was debating whether to stay alive. She was in pain, her heart was broken, and she just wanted to give up. So I researched herbs for her wounds and Chinese mushrooms for boosting her immunity. I cried and cried, when she looked all excited to eat, but would not eat. I talked to her each night about what is her life going to be like. I literally found myself sitting with my foster talking. I have told her that she can have the life she wants if we can get her better. I was desperate. She lost so much weight barely weighted 50 lb and was skin and bones. Her body was not healing her wound, it had no strength.

This is Gemma after she came to me and her wounds healed up a bit

This is her already looking much better! She was transported from GA Rescue that has been applying healing cream to her back. When we met she had no interest in me or other people, just children, and I must say I don't blame her. Long nails, nasty coat, dirty ears and fleas... didn't looked like an indoor dog.

Long story short, after starting to eat and eating all her immunity boost vitamins her wound closed up in a month and the next month we grew hair on her back. She gained weight and weights healthy 65 lb. We took her for a vacation and finished her Heartworm Treatment. She loves everyone she meets, especially kids, and she if fully trained ready for her new home. I am delivering her to her daddy next weekend and be sure I will miss this beautiful girl! She has been an angel and I can't wait to watch her blossom in her new home!

If you look carefully, you will see her small diamond or a gem on her forehead!
